Volleyball players earn post-season honors

For the first time in history, the Forest Lake volleyball team qualified for the state tournament this fall.

With the team success came individual success for the Rangers as several members of the team earned post-season honors or set new school records.

ìEach of these ladies had an important role on the team,î Forest Lake coach Sherri Alm said. ìWe could not have achieved so much without any of them. Our managers also played a huge role. Margo Taylor and Laura Henry worked hard to help us reach our goals.

ìWhat a year. Thank you to all the parents, fans and the school personnel for all of your support.î

The following is a list of accomplishments and awards earned by members of the team as submitted by Alm.

ï Katie Thompson ñÝoffensive MVP, best hitter with 340 kills (which set a new school record), All-Suburban East Conference, All-State Honorable Mention, All-State Tournament Team.

ï Molly Thompson ñÝoutstanding senior, most aces with 67, most blocks with 89, also had 298 kills, 324 digs, All-SEC, All-State Honorable Mention.

ïÝAlison McCurdy ñÝoutstanding senior, most assists with 975 (which set a new school record) most digs with 345, All-SEC.

ï Cortney Marr ñÝdefensive MVP, top server at 99 percent (392 of 396, which sets a new record), 216 service points, top passer at 94 percent with 322 digs, All-SEC Honorable Mention, All-State nominee.

ï Tara Kent ñÝoutstanding leader, 195 kills, 67 blocks, All-SEC Honorable Mention, Academic All-State.

ï Mary Sobiech ñÝoutstanding leader, 95 percent, 213 kills, 72 blocks, All-SEC Honorable Mention, Academic All-State.

ï Angie Klosner ñÝgood team player, 96 percent serving, 109 digs.

ïÝAndrea Lehner ñÝbest hustle.

ï Jamie Falck ñÝgreat digs, 97 percent serving, 223 digs.

ïÝLisa Chmielewski ñÝgood attitude, 90 percent serve receive.

ïÝLindsey Anderson ñÝmost team spirit, .236 kill efficiency, 142 digs, Academic All-State.

ï Kristina Bushman ñÝawesome saves, 95 percent serving.

ïÝCasey Liptak ñÝgood defense, 100 percent serving, 93 percent serve receive.
