Posted: 7/23/03 FL's National Night Out is Aug. 5On Tuesday, Aug. 5, neighborhoods throughout Forest Lake are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide in celebrating National Night Out. This yearís 19th Annual National Night Out will involve an estimated 33 million people. National Night Out is designed to: (1) heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) generate support for, and participation in local anti-crime programs; (3) strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. From 6-9 p.m. on Aug. 5, residents in neighborhoods throughout Forest Lake and across the nation, are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors. During that time the Forest Lake Police Department will be visiting neighborhood watch groups throughout the community. They are also inviting residents of the city of Forest Lake to join them at Lakeside Park between 6-9 p.m. Officers will be on hand to answer questions, and have information on things such as neighborhood watch programs and home safety. North Ambulance and the Forest Lake Fire Department will also be on hand to join in the celebration. They look forward to your participation in working together to keep our community safe. There will be entertainment at Lakeside Park from 7-9 p.m. James Wedgwood, a comic ventriloquist, and Crash, a percussion in motion group will be performing at that time.
