Posted: 7/2/03 Tobacco compliance check is cleanA clear report has been issued for retailers in Forest Lake selling tobacco products. A compliance check carried out by the Forest Lake Police Department on June 25 found no violations from 31 stores in the city that sell tobacco products. On June 25, the surprise compliance check was initiated. Police used two underage buyers who entered the 31 stores and attempted to buy tobacco products. In all 31 cases, employees at the stores asked for proof of identification and would not sell tobacco products to the underage buyers. The legal age to buy tobacco products in Minnesota is 18 and retailers are required to check all customers up to age 26, police said. Police in Forest Lake are also investigating a pair of thefts that took place last week. Sometime over the weekend, a theft took place at a home construction site on 202nd St. N. and Falcon Avenue. A Honda generator and Milwaukee Sawzall with combined value of $750 were stolen, police said. A theft of tires and rims was reported from Forest Lake Mitsubishi, 322 SW 19th St., on June 27. The tires and rims were taken from a 1999 Dodge pickup and have total value of $2500, police said. |
