Police holiday calls run average

It was a busy holiday weekend for police in Forest Lake, but no more than average based on past celebrations, the chief of police said this week.

An estimated 200 calls were handled by city officers during the four-day Fourth of July celebration July 3-6, said David Schwartz on Tuesday.

Many of the calls were routine and the department made only two arrests for disorderly conduct and drinking, both on the night of July 4th, the chief said. Only one ticket for drinking in public was issued, he said.

In summary, city police handled the following celebration related calls: 22 fireworks complaints, 10 parking complaints, 13 vandalism reports, 8 noise complaints, 8 domestic reports, 4 disorderly conduct reports, 4 fights and 4 alcohol complaints.

There were other crimes to handle, too, he said.

An assault at Upperdeck, 55 S. Lake St., left a Forest Lake man, 22, with a broken nose and requiring a dozen stitches to the face after a fight with a second man who fled the scene.

Police said the second combatant is described as a white male with dark brown hair, wearing a white muscle-type shirt, khaki pants and white shoes. The assault victim was taken by ambulance to Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center in Wyoming for treatment.

At Aggregate Industries, 6125 N. 210th St., two radios valued at $500 each and a tow strap valued at $100 was reported stolen from two company trucks over the weekend. A third truck was entered but nothing was taken.

Baconís Forest Lake Motors, 55 SE 11th Ave., reported vandalism to six vehicles on the dealership lot the night of July 4th. An American flag was also stolen from the business.

On the night of July 3rd, four tires and rims with value of $1600 were stolen from a vehicle at Forest Lake Mitsubishi, 322 SW 19th St.

A vehicle parked in the 200 block of NW 3rd St. was reported stolen by a Stacy woman at 12:35 a.m. on July 4.
