Vogel park bench dedication sparks memories

In their 60 years in Forest Lake, there was no holiday more special to Bert and Elsie Vogel than the Fourth of July. It was for that reason the three children of the Vogels chose July 4 to dedicate a bench at Lakeside Memorial Park in memory of the couple who ran Skateland from 1955 until 1969. About a 100 friends and former skaters turned out for the dedication. The family has donated a park bench on the east side of Peppermint Parlor where Skateland once stood. Daughter Mary McGraw, shown here, talks during the event. Joanna Vogel Warren was on hand with sister Mary as was their brother Steve Vogel.
