Sister Loraine Brown celebrates 50th jubilee

Sister Loraine Brown celebrated her 50th jubilee as a Presentation Sister this year.

Family and friends rejoiced with Sister Loraine and the Congregation at a Mass and reception on June 15 in Blessed Sacrament Chapel at Presentation Heights, Aberdeen.

Sister Loraine Brown was born to Charles and Ethel (Waddell) Brown in Sioux Falls, SD, on February 22, 1934.

She attended grade school in Sioux Falls, SD, and went on to attend high school and graduate from Notre Dame Academy, Mitchell, SD, in 1952.

In third grade Sister Loraine heard the call to become a Sister. This was affirmed in seventh grade and throughout high school. She heeded this call to service and entered Presentation Convent on September 8, 1952.

In 1955, Sister Lorraine graduated from Presentation College. She went on to earn a bachelorís in education from Northern State College (University) in 1969.

Sister Lorraineís education ministry spanned 23 years. During this time she taught in Woonsocket, Jefferson, Bridgewater, Mitchell and Huron, SD, and in Willmar, Mound and Anoka, MN.

In 1978 Sister Loraine began preparation for a new venture in pastoral ministry.

The following year she began serving St. Peterís Parish in Forest Lake as pastoral minister.

For three years beginning in 1987, Sister Loraine went on to become administrative program coordinator of the Forest Lake Seniorsí Community Center.

Sister Loraine attended Sister Rosilandís School of Professional Massage in St. Paul. After graduating in 1992, she served as a massage therapist in Forest Lake, Lindstrom and Chisago City.

She returned to South Dakota in 1996 and began her current ministry as a massage therapist for the Wellness Center at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, SD.
