Posted: 6/18/03 Midsommar Dag Saturday at GammelgĀrdenThe annual summer event, Midsommar Dag, is set for Saturday at GammelgĀrden Museum in Scandia. To a Swede, the world holds joy and visions of sunny meadows, shimmering waters, rhythmic beats of accordions and fiddlers and dancing around the MajstĀng. The MajstĀng is bedecked with green leaves, birch twigs, garlands of flowers or colorful ribbons. The schedule for Midsommar Dag includes a smorgasbord at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Elim Lutheran Church. Tickets are $12. Call 433-5053 or 433-3430. Between 1-1:45 p.m. Elsie Peters will lead a ring dancing lesson and the MajstĀng will be raised and decorated. The Scandia Band will play 1:30-2 p.m. The parade of entertainers is scheduled for 2 p.m. with the Twin City Folk Dancers, KichSaga Junior Dancers, Nyckelharpers, Friday Fiddle Club, dance around the MajstĀng. Dennis Johnson, retired interim president of Gustavus Adolphus College will deliver the invocation. Don Peterson and Dan Brown, retiring president and treasurer of GammelgĀrden Museum will be honored. Individual groups will entertain throughout the day. |
