Legion dignitaries set for July 4 parade
The stateís two top officials in the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary will be in Forest Lake on Friday, July 4 for the annual 10 a.m. Independence Day parade sponsored by American Legion Post 225. Don Hayden, department commander of the Minnesota American Legion, hails from Le Center Post 108 and is a Vietnam-era veteran. He is executive director of the Le Center Economic Development Authority and the Le Center Chamber of Commerce and active in many community functions. He has served in numerous capacities at the department level. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in mortuary science. Also slated for the Independence Day parade is Karen Thygeson, Thief River Falls, president of the Department of Minnesota, American Legion Auxiliary for 2002-2003. She is a member of Thief River Falls Unit 117 and is eligible for membership through her deceased husband, Floyd Fredrickson, a Korean War veteran. She has been employed by the United States Department of Agriculture for 20 years. She has been active on the Unit and District levels for 27 years.
