Posted: 6/4/03 FL begins search for police chiefJessica Foster The search for a successor to Director of Public Safety Dave Schwartz is on. The Forest Lake City Council hired The Brimeyer Group, Inc. of Hopkins to lead the search to replace Schwartz, who is retiring Dec. 31. Brimeyer Groupís fee for the search is $14,000 not including expenses not to exceed $3000. Also not included in that figure is expenses associated with candidatesí expenses for final interview. Brimeyer Group was the lowest bidder. The search begins with Brimeyer developing a profile by interviewing city representatives. Recruitment of candidates is scheduled for August and September with review and screening of candidates in October. Finalists are scheduled to be selected Oct. 28 with interviews the week of Nov. 17. The new chief is scheduled to start in December. Explorers The Forest Lake Police Explorer Post 515 brought an impressive stash of hardware to the city council meeting Tuesday, May 27. It was the last official duty for leader Mike Aschenbrener, who left Forest Lake to take the top cop job in Mendota Heights. The Explorers earned the 2003 Post of the Year Award, and the Don Cup Community Service Award. Aschenbrener took the 2003 Advisor Award and Greg Weiss, who will be serving as the new advisor took the 2002 assistant advisor award. Nancy Klosner and Megan Martin also were recognized with 2003 Leadership Awards. The awards also represent scholarship money for the Explorers as they continue their education. The Explorers also got a boost from Pete Paider and Jason Houle, who presented the post with a $2001 check representing funds raised in the straight line speed race fund raiser in March. ìWeíve got some really good things going on,î Aschenbrener said. Of those good things, the city last week hired an Explorer to serve on the city force. Patrick Martin, a former Explorer, was hired as a part time officer, taking his oath at the May 27 meeting. |
