Police arrest 2 in vandalism spree

Police in Forest Lake this week said they have arrested two juvenile males from the area who allegedly caused an estimated $100,000 in property damage in late May.

The two males, ages 17 and 16, are accused of setting fire to a recreational vehicle at 1022 SE 7th St. in the early morning hours of May 24. On the same evening, 21 windows and the glass in three doors at St. Peterís Catholic Church, 1250 South Shore Drive, were broken.

Three vehicles in the southeast area of the city also received window damage the same night, police said.

Investigator Bob Cockburn said this week police made contact with the two juveniles at the scene of the fire at 2:51 a.m. on May 24. The resulting investigation led to the arrests, he said.

The RV damage was set at more than $60,000. There was minor structural fire damage to the house and garage, police said.

Police said the window damage was likely caused by either a B-B gun or pellet gun, or by a spring-loaded punch.

Cockburn said the two will likely face felony charges of aggravated criminal damage to property. A determination of certification of the two as adults will be left to the Washington County Attorney, he said.

jumps from pickup

A 17-year-old female was hurt, police said, when she jumped from a moving vehicle on TH-97 last Thursday evening. She was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale with head injuries, police said.

The medical call was the second of two incidents involving the family on May 29, police said.

At 6:20 p.m., police were called to the girlís home to investigate a domestic incident involving the youth and her mother over the girlís $400 phone bill.

About an hour later, police said the youth agreed to go with her father to a location where the family walked its dogs. During the ride east on TH-97, police said the youth again became upset and angry and jumped from the pickup which was traveling at 45 miles an hour. The incident took place in the 8600 block of TH-97.
