Engel falls in semifinal match at state meet

Bradnon Engel's quest to reach the 275-pound championship match came to an end on Friday at the Minnesota State High School League State Wrestling Championships.

Engel suffered a 9-2 loss to Matt Mello of Osseo in Friday's semifinals at Excel Energy Center in St. Paul. Engel, however, is assured of placing at the tournament and will take part in either the third-place or fifth-place match on Saturday.

Engel is the only wrestler of the five Forest Lake qualified for the state tournament, still wrestling. Jordan Kolbow finished with a record of 2-2 at 125 pounds; John Denney was 0-2 at 135 pounds, Brandon Girtz went 0-1 at 140 pounds and Alex Behling posted a 1-2 mark at 215 pounds.
