Health fair March 29 at Faith Lutheran

When it comes to health, little tips can go far. Just ask Jean Peikert, parish nurse at Faith Lutheran Church in Forest Lake. As parish nurse, Peikert takes part in regular church-sponsored health screening programs at Cub Foods and Lakes Snyder Drug in Forest Lake.

Most of the time, Peikert says, the screenings are routine. But not always.

In one recent visit to a Forest Lake store, a screening helped a local man sort out a heart problem. A second man suffering from hypertension was directed for help, Peikert says.

Itís just such help that may be small on the surface but can lead to valuable medical attention.

It is with that goal in mind that Faith Lutheran Church is proceeding with plans for a community event to promote health and fitness.

A health fair is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 29 at Faith Lutheran Church.

ìSpring into Healthî is free and all ages are invited.

This is an opportunity to learn more about health through screening programs and exhibits, blood pressure, diabetes, glucometer screening, nutrition, dental care, vision, exercise, child seat safety, body fat analysis, hearing, hospice, kids activities, MADD and other topics.

The key note speaker will address: ìEMS: What to do before they get there.î

Other components of the health fair will include information on assisted living, hospice, self defense and water analysis.

Forest Lake Police Department staff will be on hand for a vehicle child safety seat check.

The church is located at 886 N. Shore Dr., Forest Lake.
