At No. 3 doubles, Forest Lakeís Adam Ramsey and Jeff Carlson took a 6-3, 6-1 victory. On Friday, Forest Lake dropped a 4-3 decision to Centennial, one of the top teams in the Twin Cities area. Gage had Forest Lakeís only singles victory, winning 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4. At No. 1 singles, Forest Lakeís Framke lost 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 to Centennialís Joey Jachymowski, ranked No. 15 in the state. Softball Included in that stretch was a third-place finish at the Eastview Invitational on Saturday. Forest Lake beat Maple Grove 5-3 in the third-place game by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh inning. Forest Lake also had a 10-5 win over Armstrong to open the tournament. On Monday, White Bear Lake, which started the season ranked No. 1 in the state, defeated the Rangers 5-2. A key to the Rangersí recent success, coach Sue Stennes-Rogness said, has been the hitting of Sam Hough, Mary Sobiech and the consistent play of Margo Taylor and defense of centerfielder Cortney Marr. Forest Lake will open play in the section tournament either Friday or Monday, depending on the seed it receives. Girls golf On Monday, the Rangers finished second at the White Bear Yacht Club to pull into third place in the overall Suburban East Conference standings. Krista Swanson led the Rangers with a 40 while Sarah Berger had a 46, Christie Brink a 48, Laura Henry a 49 and Kristina Willcoxen a 51. On Thursday at River Oaks, Forest Lake finished third, led by Swansonís 39, Bergerís 42, Brinkís 46 and Henryís 47. Forest Lake coach Bill Loushine credited Bergerís improved play this year to a greater interest in the sport. ìShe has gained a passion for the game,î Loushine said. ìSheís playing a lot more besides at practice and itís showing in her scores.î Boys golf Jacob Svenkeson missed a medal by two strokes while leading the Rangers with a 76. Brad Lange and Nate Denny each had an 83 while Noah Lawson shot an 85, Mike Paisley an 87 and Mark Moberg a 95. On Monday at the Blaine Invitational at the TPC, Forest lake finished with a 355. Denny led the Rangers with an 85 while Paisley shot an 88, Svenkeson and Lawson each had a 91 while Lange finished with a 92 and Eric Larsen had a 96. Also Monday at Hastings, junior Nick Hafele led the Rangers in a junior varsity match by shooting a 39. He was followed by a pair of junior high golfers ñÝAndrew Kelly and Kyle Lewis ñ who each shot a 42. |
