Shafer woman dies in crash on US-8

US-8 has claimed another traffic fatality.

A Shafer woman died early Saturday morning when her car collided head-on with a second vehicle.

The early-morning crash took place just east of CR-23 (Pioneer Road) in Wyoming Township.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Melinda C. Jangula, 33, of Shafer, was westbound on US-8 at 5:10 a.m. when her car crossed over the center line and collided with an east bound vehicle.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The State Patrol identified the driver of the eastbound vehicle as Wa Vue, 35, of Minneapolis.

He was taken by ambulance to Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center in Wyoming and airlifted to Regions Hospital, St. Paul, in serious condition, according to the State Patrol.

Both Vue and Jangula were alone in their vehicles.

The Minnesota State Patrol is reconstructing the accident and the crash remains under investigation.
