Posted: 5/21/03 Frances Carlisle, 86, former store owner, teacher in LinwoodFrances and Clifford Carlisle dedicated their lives to making Linwood Township a great place to be. Together, they were owners of the Carlisle Store, which started in the early 1970s. They were founding members of Sunnyside Church and the founders of the Linwood Athletic Association. Frances Carlisle died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at her home surrounded by her family less than a year following the death of Clifford Carlisle, who died Aug. 9, 2002. Frances graduated from Anoka High School in 1935, graduated from teaching school and taught in Nowthen, Anoka and Linwood. She and Clifford were married June 2, 1945, in Anoka and then lived and raised a family in Linwood. Along with being the former owner of the Carlisle Store and being a founding member of the Sunnyside Church and the founder of the Linwood Athletic Association, Frances also was a member of the Linwood Helping Hands Club and the Linwood Fire Department Womens Auxiliary. Frances also started the Linwood 4-H Club and was active in several community activities and functions. A funeral service was Saturday, May 17, at Sunnyside Free Lutheran Church, Stacy, with interment at Linwood Cemetery. She is survived by daughter, Catherine Carlisle; sons, Robert (Susie), John (Kathy) and Tom (Sheri); grandchildren, Stacey (Todd) Cunningham, Sarah (Keith) Kuhn, Stephanie (Scott) LaDue, Nick, Kristen, Andy, Joe, David, Sam, Steve and Codey; great-grandchildren, Michael and Chase; sister-in-law, Beatrice (Frank) Gabrick; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives, friends and the community of Linwood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; her sister, Marge Swanson; brother, Clarence Fiddyment; and grandchild Michael Carlisle. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Mattson Funeral Home. |
