Posted: 5/21/03 2 men given prison time for sexual assault convictionsTwo men have been given prison time after their convictions for unrelated sexual assault crimes that took place in Forest Lake last year. Following a plea agreement, Wayne Anthony Seeger, 47, Forest Lake, was sentenced to 86 months in prison on a charge of criminal sexual conduct in the second degree. Judge Thomas Armstrong handed down the sentence on May 12. Seeger was charged in June of 2002 for incidents involving two young children at a home in Forest Lake. Forest Lake police said the investigation covered events over an 11-month period. In addition to prison time, Seeger was ordered to register as a sex offender, provide a DNA sample and serve five years on conditional release Also on May 12, Jason Dean Setter, 24, of 844 SW 4th St., Forest Lake, was handed a 45-month prison term for his conviction on a charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. Setter was charged in connection with an incident involving a 15-year-old juvenile female at the Hitching Post Motel in March of last year. Setter was also ordered to complete five years of mandatory conditional release, register as a sex offender and provide a DNA sample. Other reports In other Forest Lake police reports, a local woman affiliated with a Cub Scout Pack is facing felony charges for issuance of worthless checks. Julie A. Newkirk, 16561 W. Iverson St., Forest Lake, has been charged with the felony in Washington County District Court. The charge applies to Newkirkís alleged issuance of 22 worthless checks totalling $2553.62 at MarketPlace Foods in Forest Lake last summer. The checks were drawn on a bank account held by Cub Scout Pack 414. Forest Lake police said the woman was treasurer of the pack at the time of the police investigation. Anoka County is the lead investigative unit in the case and additional charges may be filed in that county, police here said. A Wyoming woman has been charged with possession of stolen property after police here recovered a car reported stolen in Wyoming. On Feb. 18, police arrested Manne Peterson, 22, of 5712 Railroad Blvd., Wyoming, at the Hitching Post Motel. The woman was found in possession of a car stolen from Berryís Garage in Wyoming. She was also ticketed for driving after suspension. City police assisted the Washington County Narcotics Unit with a K-9 random search at Forest Lake High School, 6101 Scandia Trail N., Friday, May 16. During the search by a drug-sniffing canine officer, county deputies and city officers found liquor, tobacco, small amounts of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the lockers and vehicles of a dozen students. Police said a number of citations to students were issued. The county unit provides schools in the county with drug investigative sweeps on a regular basis as a means of clamping down on drug use in county schools. |
