Posted: 5/21/03 Residents complain about junkAlice Pickering Linwood Township residents are becoming more vocal about homes with junk in and around yards. A number of residents appeared at the Tuesday, May 13 meeting to complain about a house on Typo Creek Drive that has an increasing accumulation of junk boats, cars and other debris in the yard. Neighbors said they were concerned about health hazards and aesthetics. Although township attorney Gerald Randall was not at the meeting last week, the board will direct him to contact owners of the property, referencing nuisance ordinances. Among options available to the township when residents fail to cleanup a lot, is for the township to arrange for the clean-up work to be done, and then assess the costs to the property owner. Planning topics Linwood town board approved a preliminary sketch plan for Daniel Evens. The planning and zoning commission is contemplating changes in the ordinance related to cul-de-sacs that may need to be incorporated in the final plat proposal. Residents from Paradise Point appeared seeking assistance with drainage near their home. They reported that more frequently 241st has water on or over it. Building inspector Dave Thompson, Supervisor Mike Budde, and Engineer Craig Jochum are to visit the site and to determine if there is a solution. Fire report The fire department reported 18 responses in April. Ten were to fires and the others were for medical emergencies. The department responded to 61 emergency calls through April 30. The department has been awarded a $500 grant from Xcel Energy for landscaping around the new fire station. The departmentís revised constitution and by-laws are on review for 30 days. Fire marshals are issuing three-day burning permits, allowing brush burning from 6-8 p.m. Other business In other business May 13, the town board: ïAt the request of Supervisor Marie Holm, tabled a decision about the termination of a firefighter, until more information is available, including the written specifics of the complaint. ïTabled a decision about repair/replacement of the doors to the senior center, until more information can be obtained. ïTabled a decision about street repairs on 237th and Kenzie until more information is obtained from the road and bridge committee. ïReminded residents about the Pet Clinic from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, May 31. ïLearned there was a good turnout for Linwood Clean-up Day. |
