Posted: 5/7/03 Royals withstand elements, FLBerk Brown Woodbury was the only obstacle the Forest Lake girls golf team couldnít overcome Monday. Forest Lake competed against constant rain, cold temperatures, water puddles, greens littered with worms and seeds and 18 other teams Monday at the Forest Lake Invitational at Forest Hills and defeated all of them, with the exception of the Royals. Woodbury won the team title with a 361 while the Rangers finished just behind in second place with a 364. Roseville finished fourth at 371 and Cretin-Derham Hall was fourth with 383. On a day for only the bravest golfers, Forest Lake coach Bill Loushine said he was proud of the effort his team gave. ìThis is the kind of team that isnít going to whine about the weather,î Loushine said. ìThey shot some real nice scores. (The 364) is real acceptable in those conditions. ìI was extremely proud of how well they handled the weather, the wet, the cold, the length (of the 5 1/2-hour round) and the competition.î Forest Lakeís Krista Swanson, playing in her second-to-last home meet along with the other seniors, was medalist with an 82, which was three-shots better than Woodburyís Laura Taylor. Christie Brink tied for seventh with a 92 while Laura Henry finished the day with a 94 and Sarah Berger turned in a 96. Christina Willcoxen and Jen Doriott rounded out the Rangersí varsity squad. Forest Lake will host a Suburban East Conference meet on Thursday, May 15, at Forest Hills. |
