Arrests help police solve thefts

Burglaries and drug arrests filled the Forest Lake police blotter this week and in one arrest, officers here solved a trio of theft reports.

A call from a homeowner reporting an attempted burglary in the 21400 block of Fondant Ave. on Nov. 14 led to a pair of arrests and a link to several city thefts, police said.

In responding to the Fondant call, police stopped a vehicle and arrested two men. Police arrested Aaron M. Osterberg, 19, of Coon Rapids, and Steve Scanlon, 18, of Blaine.

Osterberg was held on a charge of possession of burglary tools, a bolt cutter, police said. Scanlon was held on a warrant from Anoka County and ticketed for underage consumption of alcohol. Burglary and theft charges against the pair are pending, Chief of Police David Schwartz said.

In arresting the pair, Schwartz said officers recovered property previously stolen in two city crimes.

Police have recovered tools and other items taken from a burglary at 5000 block of N. 210th St., a theft from a pickup truck in the 800 block of SW 8th St. and a theft from a construction trailer in the 900 block of SW 2nd.

The crimes were reported to police on Nov. 13 and Nov. 14.

Police arrests

Schwartz said police made two arrests for drug-related offenses and one for attempted sexual assault during the past week.

The attempted sexual assault arrest followed a report on Nov. 12 that a female employee at McDonaldís had been coerced to enter the menís restroom where the assault attempt took place.

The incident was reported at 7:20 p.m. Within 30 minutes, police canvassing the area located and arrested Michael Lord Owens, 40, no permanent address. He was booked and held at the county jail.

The victim was upset but not injured during the incident, police said.

Officers on routine patrol made two drug arrests.

At 10:37 p.m. on Nov. 14, police observed a man urinating outside his car parked in the municipal parking lot. Jeffrey D. Anderson, 31, of Shoreview, was arrested on counts of third and fifth-degree controlled substance crime after police recovered a quantity of methamphetamine.

A female passenger in Andersonís car was released.

In the second drug arrest, officers on patrol at the Forest Lake Rest Stop at 1:12 a.m. on Nov. 17 arrested an Eveleth woman on a first-degree controlled substance warrant from St. Louis County. A license plate check of the car confirmed the outstanding warrant.

Police also charged Shellie R. Foy, 47, with one count of fifth-degree controlled substance possession. The 29-year-old man who was driving Foyís vehicle was not charged.
