2004 Chisago County levy takes shape
A property tax levy of $21.9 million for 2004 has been proposed by the Chisago County Board of Commissioners. The final levy will be adopted in December. According to figures from Commissioner Ben Montzka, the countyís share of a typical home valued at $150,000 would decrease from $949 in 2003 to approximately $900 in 2004 if there is no appreciation in market value for a homestead with value of $150,000. If a 12 percent market value is applied to the property with $150,000 value, the county share of property taxes would likely increase 5-6 percent, Montzka said. ìOur county budget committee (Commissioners Lora Walker, Mike Robinson) has done an excellent job in dealing with the challenges from a loss of revenue from the state and the increasing needs of a growing county,î Montzka said in a release. He said the committee and the two commissioners deserve credit for their efforts.
