City will see $67,285 in recycling funds
The Washington County Board on Oct. 7 approved distribution of recycling funds to the city of Forest Lake. The county is once again offering incentives to encourage and support curbside recycling by providing grant money for that purpose. All cities and townships in Washington County are eligible to receive grant funds for curbside recycling programs. The board approved a distribution of $67,285 to the city of Forest Lake. Funding for these grants is made from the county environmental charge and two state grants: SCORE (Select Committee on Recycling and the Environment) and LRDG (Local Recycling Development Grant]). The money for the SCORE grant is generated by the Solid Waste Management Tax on solid waste collection. Monies for the LRDG grant are generated by a surcharge on solid waste disposed in metropolitan area landfills.
