Posted: 10/1/03 Spanish-immersion school plans information meetingsLakes International Language Academy, a proposed public charter school for grades K-6, will conduct several upcoming parent information sessions to learn more about the schoolís Spanish-immersion education concept. Parent information sessions, already well-attended in September, continue this fall at the Forest Lake Central Learning Center, 200 SW 4th Street (ECFE/Montessori Building.). Sessions are scheduled from 7-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 7; Monday, Nov. 10; Tuesday, Dec. 2; and Monday, Dec. 8. In addition, two morning sessions are slated for Friday, Oct. 10 at 9 a.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 a.m. The school offers free childcare during each session. ìWeíre very excited to share more information about Spanish immersion and explain our curriculum for Lakes International Language Academy,î said Interim Board Co-Chair Claudia J. Lee. ìMore than 4000 students attend immersion programs in Minnesota already. Parents want their children to have the best education possible, and this is definitely a public school option to consider.î As a public school, Lakes International Language Academy will charge no tuition. The carefully developed Spanish-immersion program guides students to: ïBuild second-language proficiency while mastering math, science, English, and other core subjects. ïAchieve the rigorous standards of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program in addition to state and national academic standards. ïLearn from a global perspective in an exciting and caring environment with limited class sizes. The academy is accepting enrollment applications now and expects to begin classroom instruction September 2004, pending final approval from the Minnesota Department of Education.
