Steenblockís contract not among top 25

The contract held by Forest Lake Superintendent of Schools Lynn Steenblock does not fall among the top 25, according to data for fiscal year 2002 presented by State Auditor Pat Awada last week.

Steenblock was paid $117,000 in fiscal year 2002. His base salary was $120,000 in the fiscal year that closed on June 30, 2003.

Stillwater ranked 25th on the metro area list of superintendents with a total salary amount of $120,511 for fiscal year 2002.

Steenblock was also not among the top 25 superintendents in the metro area in terms of total compensation paid under contracts for fiscal year 2002.

South St. Paul was 25th on the metro survey with total compensation of $132,240 while the metro area average was $134,962.

Steenblock was paid total compensation of $125,880 in fiscal year 2002, according to the Awada report.

Steenblock this summer signed a new three-year contract that will pay him base salary of $122,000, $125,000 and $128,000 over the next three years.

The new contract starting on July 1, 2003 also grants Steenblock 22 severance days in each of the contract years building to a state-allowed maximum of 111.5 days.

The severance days package amounts to extra compensation when the superintendent leaves the district. The superintendent would be paid for each accumulated severance day times his daily rate of pay at the time he retires or resigns from the district.

Under the new pact, the superintendent will also be eligible for a pay for performance bonus amounting to a maximum of $5500, $7000 and $8500 in order over the three-year pact. He is also paid $550 a month in car allowance in the first year of the contract with the payment to increase by 3 percent a year in the second and third years.

The State Auditorís report was based on data self reported by school districts.
