The Forest Lake boys and girls cross country teams ran exceptionally well this weekend at the Swain Invitational in Duluth, as both teams finished in the top half of the field.

The girls team finished third out of a 26 team field, whereas the boys finished 12 out of 29 teams.

ìWe had a good meet,î girls cross country coach Janet Howe said. ìWeíre very excited about it, and itís something we definitely needed.î

The girls top finisher was Kristen Howe with a time of 16:15.0, that was fast enough for fifth place overall.
Laura Edlund also finished in the top ten with her ninth place time of 16:32.1.

The gap between finishers for the girls was 1:25.6, and 0:51.5 for the boys.

John Fahnhorst was the top boys finisher once again for the boys team as he crossed the finish line 39th with a time of 18:07.8. Peter Bailey and Lorin Skoglund were not far behind with times of 18:25.5 and 18:42.0.

To prepare for the Swain race, both the boys and girls teams ran a relay from Stillwater High School to Forest Lake on Friday. The game ball for Friday nightís homecoming football game was carried by the teams. The relay was completed when the ball was handed to football coach Jim Herman just before the opening kickoff to start the game.

Both teams compete in the Suburban East Conference meet today at Falcon Ridge Golf Course.
ìOur goal is to do the same thing today,î Howe said. ìWe want to surprise some teams and see what kind of damage we can do.î
