Posted: 10/8/03 Rally for school levy Oct. 9 at FL LegionA citizen-led rally in support of ISD 831ís request for voter authorization of funding will take place tonight (Thursday) at American Legion Post 225 in Forest Lake. The Oct. 9 rally is set for 7 p.m. at the Legion Post, 355 W. Broadway Ave. Local residents interested in supporting the upcoming ISD 831 school levies can learn more by attending a YES! for Schools levy rally, said Trish Curtis, community network leader for the YES! for Schools committee. Attendees can get the facts about the two levies that will be voted on Nov. 4 and learn the many ways they can become involved. All groups and individuals interested in supporting the campaign are encouraged to attend, Curtis said. On Nov. 4, district voters will be asked to support two ballot questions. One is for a five-year excess operating levy that will generate $2 million a year to support general fund functions and head off potential budget cuts. The school administration is now crafting a plan to trim some $2 million in general fund expenses for the 2004-2005 school year in the event the levy on Nov. 4 is defeated at the polls. A second ballot question is a five-year capital projects levy to collect $2 million a year for upgrade and support of district technology needs. For more information about the Oct. 9 rally, call Trish Curtis, community network leader, at 651-464-0308 or steventrish@att.net. |
