FL Music Department presents expo

The Forest Lake Area Schools Music Department will present Music Expo 2003 Monday, October 13 in the Forest Lake Senior High School Gymnasium.

A similar expo in 2001 drew an audience of 2500 people.

The Expo is designed to show parents and community members how the music department educates the students of Forest Lake and how music can positively affect a studentís life as well as a positive experience in their school life.

It also shows how a student progresses through the program from a beginner in the elementary to a performing group at the senior high.

The evening will start with the High School Jazz Band playing in the gymnasium from 6:30 p.m. until the actual program begins at 7 p.m.

At 7 p.m. the program begins with the 4th & 5th Grade Combined Choir. They will play such numbers as George Gershwinís ìI Got Rhythmî and Jim Solomonís ìAlpha Four,î among others.

They are followed by beginning instrumentalists and string players from the sixth grade.

Because these students are just beginning to learn their instruments, they will play some beginning songs or exercises to show how the beginner starts.

Following the beginning string and instrumental players, the Ninth Grade Combined Orchestra from Century and Southwest Jr. High will play two selections including ìDance of the Tumblersî and ìSt. Anneís Reel.î The combined Century and Southwest 9th Grade Choirs will follow and also will perform two selections including ìIn Praise of Musicî and ìBecause We Sing.î

Then the combined Ninth Grade Bands will perform their two selections.

The Sinfonia Orchestra from the High School follows the Ninth Grade Bands with two selections of their own including Robert W. Smithís ìThe Great Locomotive Chaseî and ìWedding Danceî by Jacques Press, arranged by Alfred ìCorkyî Fabrizio.

They will be followed by the Concert Choir that will perform two selections, ìFencesî and ìMusic Down in My Soul.î

The last group to perform on the program will be the Symmphonic Winds.

The Grand Finale will be ìFinale,î which takes the themes from Beethovenís Symphony No. 9.

This will be performed by all of the musicians that have been on the program. The total number of students performing will be close to 600.

The public is invited to attend and there is no admission charge.
