Posted: 10/8/03 Rangers advance in sectionsJoe Drennan A 7-0 win over sectional rival Chisago Lakes, and a 6-1 win over Irondale is how the Forest Lake girls tennis team finished their regular season. Chisago Lakes was not much of a challenge for Forest Lake. The Rangers won all single matches in two sets, with Katie Anderson having the least trouble as she won 6-0, 6-2. The doubles matches all ran smoothly as well. Amanda and Jenny Coozennoyís match was the only match of the day to go three sets, but the Coozennoys came out on top. ėThis win was crucial in getting a home seed for section 4AA play,î girls tennis coach Judy Hill said. The Rangers began the section playoffs at home Monday as they squared off against Irondale again. The Rangers were ranked eighth in the section, and Irondale was ninth. The Rangers beat Irondale by a score of 5-2. The Rangers swept all four singles matches, winning them all in two sets. Hilary Framke had the most convincing win as she won 6-2, 6-0. Kelly Dobchal and Alexa Nelson won their doubles match 6-1, 6-0, 4-5 to secure a Rangers victory. ėThe singles players played very aggressively,î Hill said. ėWe also had a convincing and quick 45 minute win at doubles that helped us.î The win over Irondale means the Rangers now advance to play Mounds View. Mounds View is ranked number one in section 4AA. The match against Mounds View was played Tuesday and scores were not in by press time. The winner of the Mounds View - Forest Lake match will go on to play the winner of a White Bear Lake - Coon Rapids match. |
