698 students attend summer school
A total of 698 students attended summer school in ISD 831, the school board was told this month. Gayle McGrane, reported to the school on Sept. 2 on the status of the 2004 program. A total of 436 kids were part of the elementary summer school program and worked with teachers and instructional aids to catch up on some of the skills missed during the year. While 160 high school students took advantage of a variety of classes, ranging from social studies and English to agriculture and Basic Skills Tests preparation. Twenty-four sixth grade students used the summer to develop core academic skills and prepare themselves for junior high, while 78 seventh and eighth graders were able to repeat classes they struggled with during the regular year. ìMany of our students made progress on essential academic skills this summer,î McGrane said. ìThis has been a strong, positive academic experience for everyone.î
