Hestekin will retire after 37 years of work

Betty Hestekin, R.N., director of Community Health Outreach Services for Fairview Lakes Regional Health Care, will retire Oct. 1, after more than 37 years of service to caring for the health of the community.

A retirement tea and open house in Hestekinís honor is scheduled 2-4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 29, in the atrium at Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center in Wyoming. Refreshments will be served.

A brief program will take place at 2:30 p.m.

Hestekin began her 37-year career first as a registered nurse and then as director of nursing at Chisago Lakes Hospital and Chisago Health Services. She later became director of community health outreach services for Chisago Health Services and subsequently Fairview Lakes Regional Health Care.

In that role, she has established dozens of partnerships with schools, and other community agencies across Washington, Chisago and Anoka counties.

Hestekin has garnered state and national awards for helping to establish and sustain innovative programs such as ìFriends Make a Difference,î a mentoring program that brings together kids and adult mentors from the community in more than a dozen area schools, ìIntroduction to Health Care,î a career exploration and nursing assistant course for high school students established in three local area school districts, suicide prevention programming in both the Forest Lake and Chisago Lakes school districts, and low-cost bike helmet distribution programs.

She was last yearís recipient of the Forest Lake Youth Service Bureauís ìOn Behalf of Youthî award.

Patients, friends and colleagues are invited to attend the Sept. 29 tea and open house in Hestekinís honor.
