District 52A Rep. Ray Vandeveer, R-Forest Lake, is one of 43 incumbent Minnesota House of Representative members up for reelection this fall who has signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge sponsored by Americans for Tax Reform. By signing the pledge, a candidate commits ìto oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes,î according to the ATR. Vandeveerís opponent, DFLer Rob Rapheal of Scandia, did not sign the pledge. Not all area House incumbents nor their challengers have signed the pledge. Incumbent District 17B Rep. Pete Nelson, R-Lindstrom, elected to not sign the pledge for the second consecutive time. His DFL challenger, Jeremy Kalin, did not sign, as well. In House District 52B for southern Washington County, incumbent Rep. Rebecca Otto, DFL-May Township, nor her opponent, Republican Matt Dean, have signed the pledge, according to the ATR release dated Sept. 8.
