Posted: 9/1/04 Girls tennis dominates Andover
Joe Drennan Eight matches into the season and Forest Lake High School girls tennis coach Greg Patchin is pretty content with what heís seen so far. ìThe team is doing about what I expected them to do,î Patchin said. ìI knew our singles would be strong, but I am not sure I have the right six paired up for doubles yet. Our strongest pair of doubles has been Quinne (Patchin) and Maddie (Rausch).î Patchin and Rausch won in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 in Thursdayís match against Andover. The pair of Alexa Nelson and Chelsea Sager also won their match 6-1, 6-1. The only loss Forest Lake suffered against Andover was a three set loss by Jenny Coozenooy and Kadja Zinchenko who lost 4-6, 6-2, 6-7. ìWeíre going to do some major shifting in the doubles starting with Tuesdayís match against Coon Rapids,î Patchin said. ìWeíre going to bring up some junior varsity girls and see what happens.î In singles play against Andover, Forest Lake won all four matches in straight sets. Paige Patchin won 6-0, 6-2, Katie Anderson won 6-1, 6-1, Hilary Framke won 6-1, 6-0 and Steph Englund won 6-0, 6-0 to give Forest Lake a 6-1 victory. ìI figured weíd be strong in our number one and three singles spots with Paige (Patchin) and Hilary (Framke),î Patchin said. ìKatie (Anderson) has been a wonderful senior captain but she has been a bit shaky with minor inconsistencies along with Steph (Englund).î Forest Lake has a full week with matches against Coon Rapids, Anoka and North Branch before they open up section play against the powerhouse Mounds View. ìWeíve been practicing hard and most of the kids are in good form right now,î Patchin said. Weíve had some troubles with the doubles, but there is so much competition for those lower spots itís exciting.î Forest Lakeís next match is today, Thursday, at home against Anoka at 3 p.m. Forest Lake will travel to North Branch for a 4 p.m. match Friday then to Mounds View Tuesday for another 4 p.m. match. |
