The Forest Lake High School volleyball team registered its first win of the season with a victory over Hastings last Wednesday. The Rangers defeated Hastings 25-12, 25-13, 25-12.

ìAs a team we really seemed to pull together and worked as a team,î head volleyball coach Sherri Alm said.î

Pam Nora had an impressive performance with 14 points, three aces, a 94-percent serving rating and .444 kill efficiency. Megan Becker was another standout player in the Rangers victory with five kills and a .556 kill efficiency.

Adding to the Rangers success were Kirtel Overson with her .375 kill efficiency and Megan Mckenzie with her .364 kill efficiency and a 93 percent serving rating.

The Rangers began their season with a 17-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-25 loss to Park (Cottage Grove).

ìWe had some first game jitters against Park (Cottage Grove),î Alm said. ìPark (Cottage Grove) played really well defensively. Once we let that close one slip by it was hard to capture that next one too.î
Becker had a strong performance against Park (Cottage Grove) with a 100 percent serving rating and only one hitting error.

ìNot bad for a brand new sophomore,î Alm said of Becker.

Senior captain Sally Kellerhuis had 23 setting assists and Mckenzie had a 91 percent serving rating with a .237 kill efficiency and 15 digs.

ìWeíre excited about how the girls have played and what they bring to the floor every day,î Alm said. ìTheyíve been real positive about what theyíve seen.î

The Rangers next game is today, Thursday, at Stillwater at 7 p.m.
