Committee will study donations policy
A study has been requested to review a format for accepting donated dollars for reinstating programs and activities in ISD 831, the school board decided on April 5. By a 5-1 vote with one member absent, the school board sent the question to its policy committee for review. The action came to the school board from the staff welfare committee that felt a written policy would provide a process that would allow for reinstatement of activities with donated dollars as a result of budget cuts. While the policy committee review found support from five members last week, board member Keith Dunham was opposed, saying the simple request for the committee study was philosophical approval of such a policy by the full board. Dunham said he opposed the policy move because it eroded the schoolís responsibility to provide the best possible education. But with requests for donations and fund-raising likely to come, Board President Bill Bresin said the subject was necessary. ìWe need a policy one way or the other,î Bresin said. A report from the policy committee is likely by May.
