Wyoming Township ReporterThree proposals for possible changes to CR-84 near the Polaris site in Wyoming Township were reviewed with the town board on April 13 by Chris Eng of the Chisago County HRA.
The proposals range from leaving CR-84 as is to relocating the road south of the old railroad track bed or to close the road in order to best suit needs of Polaris for its proposed test facility site. The road now jogs around the city of Wyoming waste water treatment plant facility that is being sold by the city to Polaris.
A public hearing on the options was before the Chisago County Board of Commissioners on Wednesday of this week. Results of the public hearing were not available by press time this week.
The option of closing the road would likely involve turning the property back to the city of Wyoming. About one-quarter of a mile of road would be turned over to the city if this option is chosen.
The city could in turn vacate the property and include it in the parcel of the land the city will sell to Polaris for its test site facility.
Traffic that now uses CR-84 would have alternate routes on CR-36 and CR-22 (old TH-98).
Both CR-36 and CR-22 carry traffic loads now that are well below capacity, according to Chisago County figures.
Bill Malin, acting county engineer, estimates the cost of the option of relocating the county road would be in the area of $4.62 million. The estimate includes the cost for new road construction, wetland mitigation, a bridge over the Sunrise River and contracted services and permits.
