A burglar alarm early Tuesday morning probably thwarted a business burglary, Forest Lake police said.

Police were called to Associated Northland Insurance Agency, 1407 S. Lake St. at 5 a.m. Tuesday to investigate a burglar alarm. At the scene, officers found a door had been tampered with and damaged to the tune of $400.

Entry to the insurance office was not gained, police said.

In other police news, officers were called to investigate a possible residential burglary in process at 43 SW 6th St. at 6:37 p.m., Sunday, April 18. Police were called after a neighbor reported a strange man and woman outside the home.

The subjects were gone when police arrived and nothing was believed missing from the home, officers said.

Police were called to Players Beach Club, 55 S. Lake St. at 1:11 a.m., Saturday, April 17 for a report of two fights at the bar, one inside and one outside.

Police said a bar security guard was struck when he attempted to stop four male subjects who were attempting to steal a bench near the main entryway to Players.

No arrests were made.

Police also received another report of more counterfeit money being passed in the area.

VFW Post 4210, 556 SW 12th St., told police a counterfeit $20 bill was found in the gambling receipts on Friday, April 16. It is the latest in a series of bogus bills turning up in Forest Lake during the past month.

The bill will be sent to the Secret Service, the federal agency in charge of investigating counterfeit money incidents, police here said.
