First Lake ice clearsTuesday

Strong southerly winds and temperatures in the 70s were having their effect on the ice of First Lake in Forest Lake on Monday and when the winterís ice started its move, there was little that could stop it. Ice was beginning to pile up on the north shore of First Lake in the 600 block of North Shore Drive Monday afternoon. As the ice came crashing to shore, the shoreline was giving way to the incredible pressure of Mother Nature. First Lake was ice free as of 5 a.m. Tuesday but some ice remained on Second and Third lakes, according to lake observer Corbett Johnson of Forest Lake.
