Wyoming Area ReporterSeeking input from residents, the Wyoming Police Department will sponsor a public forum to discuss the operation of powered scooters in the city on April 15.
Parents, children and others interested in this issue are invited to attend. Education, legal concerns, and safe operation of these vehicles are some of the topics to be discussed.
This is an opportunity for concerned citizens to make suggestions about safe operation of these scooters. The meeting is scheduled for the community room of the Wyoming City Hall at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 15.
Polaris abatement
There were no public questions at the hearing about the tax abatement plan for the Polaris Industries Testing Facility.
After comments were taken Monday, Wyoming City Council unanimously passed a resolution approving tax abatements for Polaris for 20 years.
Carolyn Drude, Ehlers Associates, told council that Chisago County has a standing policy that limits abatement programs to 10 years.
She said it is ìnoteworthy that the policy was waived for this project,î because of its importance.
The county has approved a county tax abatement for the land for 12 years and 15 years for the buildings.
These are contingent upon the cityís approval of its tax abatement.
Library update
Wyoming Area Library Society members attended the meeting Monday, checking to see if everything is in place for the transfer of city land to Chisago County to build the East Central branch library.
Members said they want to be sure the time line for getting all the legal work completed on time, with the deadline May 1.
City Attorney Tom Miller acknowledged the county needs the property in hand before construction begins on the building. Title work will be completed by the deadline.
While there seems to be no obstacles to the processes, he said the city is waiting for county approval of the financing agreement and joint powers agreement.
Miller said he does not want to see the city give up the land until the legal documents are signed.
Documents related to the cityís actions will be ready for the next council meeting.
No problems are anticipated, but decisions may be made contingent on action by the county, North Branch and Lindstrom where the two other libraries will be built.
Sheree Vincent invited residents and council members to Pinehaven Tree Farm for the Easter egg hunt this Friday and Saturday.
Library Day activities April 9 include face painting, a chance for residents to obtain or renew library cards. Design drawings of the proposed Wyoming branch library will be on display.
