A 32-year-old man was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul after threatening to take his life in Forest Lake last week.

Forest Lake police, with help from the Washington County Special Response Team, were successful in getting the man to surrender after a two-hour standoff at a townhome in the 1700 block of SE 10th St. on Wednesday, March 31.

Chief of Police Clark Quiring said police were called to the residence at 12:50 p.m. after the man threatened to take his life with a handgun.

Quiring said six Forest Lake officers and 20 officers, including negotiators, from the multi-agency county response team, were called to the scene. After two hours of negotiations via a cell phone, the man surrendered.

Quiring said no weapon was found in the home. The man was taken to Regions for medical care, the chief said.

Residents from two adjacent townhome units were evacuated during the standoff, the chief said.
