Marine firefighters get federal grant

The Marine on Saint Croix Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded over $55,000 in a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Office for Domestic Preparedness, U.S. Sen. Mark Dayton of Minnesota announced last week. The award, provided under the 2004 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, will improve the effectiveness of firefighting operations through the expansion of health and safety training programs for firefighters and the purchase of new protective equipment. ìMinnesotaís first-responders are vital to our nationís security and to the well-being of our communities,î Dayton said. ìThese federal grants will provide Marine on Saint Croix firefighters with essential training and equipment so that they can continue to do their best, keeping our neighborhoods safe.î The program assists fire departments to prepare for emergencies and acts of terrorism.
