News EditorA Forest Lake woman who threatened suicide Sunday morning surrendered to Forest Lake police after a one-hour stand-off.
City police were called to the 7700 block of North Shore Trail N. at 11:27 a.m. after an argument between the woman and her husband led to the suicide threat.
Chief of Police Clark Quiring said police were told the woman was armed with two rifles and threatening to kill herself. Her husband had left the home and called police, the chief said.
Three Forest Lake officers were joined by two Minnesota State Troopers, one Wyoming police officer and two DNR conservation officers to form a perimeter around the home.
Quiring said officers were not able to make contact with the woman, but she surrendered after about one hour. ìShe came out and gave up,î the chief said.
The woman was taken to United Hospital in St. Paul for evaluation.
Wyoming man dies
in motorcycle crash
A Wyoming man was killed in a motorcycle crash in the city of Grant on Saturday, according to the Washington County Sheriffís Office.
Police said Daniel William Ragen, 47, was traveling southwest on CR-9 when his motorcycle ran off the right side of road into the gravel and came to rest in a ditch. The accident was reported at 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of CR-9 (Jamaca) and Ironwood in Grant.
Ragen, an employee of Ford Motor Co., is survived by his wife Vicci; sons Danny and Mike; father Bob Ragen Sr.; mother and step-father Marjorie (Don) King; brother Bob Ragen; sisters Pat (Reece) Wieckowski, Deb (Gary) Anderson; and other relatives.
A funeral service is planned 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wyoming with interment at Wyoming Methodist Cemetery. Visitation is from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4 at Mattson Funeral Home, Forest Lake.
More crime reports
In other Forest Lake police reports, a Forest Lake man has been charged with two counts of second-degree felony assault after allegedly attacking two men with a baseball bat in the parking lot at Autumn Hills Apartments, 880 SW 12th St. at 1:32 a.m. Saturday.
James J. Tobako was taken to the Washington County Jail in Stillwater after the fight. One of the two men allegedly assaulted in the fight went to Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center in Wyoming where he was treated and released, police said.
A service van that had been at Fredís Tire, 731 S. Lake St. for repairs late last week, was stolen over the weekend and stripped of tools before it was found in St. Paul on Monday.
The 1999 Chevrolet work van is owned by Gilbert Mechanical. The vehicle was recovered in St. Paul but some $10,000 in tools had been stolen, city police said.
Scandia shooting
The Washington County Sheriffís Office is seeking information from the public regarding a shooting incident in New Scandia Township on Saturday.
According to investigator Greg Reiter, three bullets from a high-powered rifle struck a home and garage in the 22000 block of Mallard Avenue N. Saturday morning. One of the .30 caliber bullets hit the garage while two hit the house. One bullet entered a bathroom while a second went through the wall, entered a room and lodged in a childís toy box.
No one was injured
