The Wyoming Township Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing to consider the adoption of the 2004 comprehensive plan at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 17 at Maranatha Church, 24799 Forest Blvd. (US-61).The plan represents an update of the townshipís 1990 comprehensive plan. Due to a significant period of population growth, as well as projected employment growth since the adoption of the 1990 plan, a comprehensive update or revision of the existing plan was warranted.
The Wyoming Town Board of Supervisors contracted with the University of Minnesotaís Center for Rural Design and appointed a 14-member citizens advisory committee to address the concerns raised following the comprehensive plan public hearing in February of 2003.
The Center for Rural Design and the citizens advisory committee had 15 meetings and conducted three community workshops with the purpose of gathering information and public input so as to complete the plan.
All members of the public who wish to speak at the Aug. 17 hearing will be asked to register before the meeting starts. This will ensure that comments are taken in an orderly manner and will help the planning commission determine if a time limit will be needed to guarantee everyone who desires to speak a chance to do so.
Town officials say the registration is not meant to prevent those from speaking who wish to respond to remarks that have been made. Rebuttals will be permitted when the registered speakers have finished.
A short presentation will be made by the planning commission at the start of the public hearing to explain the comprehensive plan to the public. Following the presentation, any written comments that have been submitted will be read.
Following the reading of written comments those who have registered will be able to speak to the commission. The planning commission asks that remarks be kept brief and to the point, and that if a previous speaker has already made the same point, please avoid making duplications.
After all of the registered speakers have finished with their remarks, those who wish to make rebuttals will be permitted to speak.
After public comments have been made the planning commission will make a recommendation to the town board whether to adopt the comprehensive plan as submitted or with revisions.
