City of FL receives election grant

The city of Forest Lake has received a grant of $945 to improve access to polling places for voters with disabilities, the Minnesota Secretary of Stateís Office said. The grant is one of 126 announced by the state totaling over $190,000. Local governments applied for funds through the state office and were considered for grant awards based on criteria developed in consultation with the Minnesota State Council on Disability. Projects the grants will fund include pavement of parking spaces for handicap parking, installation of automatic doors, addition of handrails and lighting, display of signs and the addition of voting tools such as magnifying glasses. Funding for the grants is provided by the federal Help America Vote Act.
