The Wildlife Science Center and the Chi-Wash-Anoka Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will present their Second Annual Women in the Outdoors event Friday, Aug. 20, at the Wildlife Science Center.The event is open to women ages 14 and older who want to get hands on experience and develop skills in outdoor activities. The cost for the event is $75 and includes camping, meals, instruction, use of all equipment, consumable supplies, program materials, a Women in the Outdoors stainless steel travel mug and a one year subscription to the quarterly Women in the Outdoors magazine.
The event will off courses in archery, falconry, taxidermy, orienteering and wildlife management.
The archery course will teach the proper use and selection of equipment and campers will get a chance at some target practice.
The falconry course will explore the difference between the myth and mystery of raptors and their actual role in the ecosystem.
The taxidermy course will provide an overview of commonly used methods of creating lifelike three-dimensional representations of animals through taxidermy.
The orienteering will give campers tips on how to use a compass and map as well as basic safety on what to do if you are lost.
The wildlife management course will teach the biological, political and social factors that affect wildlife management and teach campers how they can protect the wildlife.
