Joe Drennan After an easy 5-2 victory over Cambridge-Isanti the Forest Lake High School boys hockey team was waiting to see what they were really capable of. The Rangers got a taste of their true talents Saturday when they faced Alexandria. Junior Sean Tilton got the Rangers on the scoreboard late in the first period with an unassisted short handed goal. Just before the horn sounded to end the first period senior Matt Butchko gave the Rangers a 2-0 lead. In the second period the Rangers and Alexandria exchanged goals as both teams scored two goals in the second. The Rangers goals came from junior Dustin Kendrick and senior Mark Moberg. There was no scoring in the third period but the Rangers didnít need any more goals as the defense held Alexandria to only four shots in the final period to hang on to win the game 4-2. Junior goalie Nate Burris recorded his first varsity victory stopping 17 shots. The Rangers continued their winning ways Monday night with an 8-1 rout of St. Francis. Junior forward Blake Woodward had quite the impact scoring a goal in each of the three periods to record the hat trick. Senior captain Patrick Fogerty had two goals himself and Tilton, Moberg and Tom Kubes each scored goals. Senior goalie Brandon Neujahr stopped eight shots. The Rangers next game is Saturday at Armstrong at 3 p.m. |
