Students, community members present Handelís ëMessiahí on Sunday
Music will fill the gymnasium at Forest Lake Area High School at 4 p.m. on Dec. 12 as high school students join with teachers, doctors, moms and dads, retirees and more for a special performance of Handelís ìMessiah.î
This unique holiday concert will feature the high schoolís choir and orchestra students performing alongside more than 120 community members.
ìThe idea was to bring the community in on it,î said David Livermore, high school orchestra director who helped coordinate the event.
ìThere are a lot of musical people in the area. This is a way for 120 people, many of whom normally donít have reason to be in our school, to get involved.î
Musicians from across the area were invited to participate in the choir and orchestra.
The concert will feature Forest Lake Area Schools students, alumni and staff along with members of church choirs and other individuals with a love of music.
Livermore, along with choir directors Jim Lindstrom and Michelle Lynch, organized the event and the three will take turns directing during the performance.
A portion of the Messiah piece will be performed. This piece was selected because it is well known and most musicians have performed it at some point in their lives.
ìThis effort is a great opportunity for students to see music as a lifetime skill and for the community to meet the future musicians,î said Livermore. ìItís a really good thing that is going to help everyone.î
The Messiah will be performed at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12 at the Forest Lake Area High School.
Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the door. Proceeds from ticket sales will be used to help the high school orchestra purchase a harpsichord.
