Sports EditorAn early lead slipped away from the Forest Lake High School boys basketball team as they fell to Roseville Friday night.
The Rangers jumped out to an early two point lead at the end of the first quarter as they were up 11-9. The Rangers would see their lead disappear in the second quarter as Roseville discovered their scoring touch, and became stingy on defense.
Roseville outscored the Rangers 19-2 in the second quarter to go into halftime with a commanding 28-13 lead.
When the teams returned from their locker rooms after halftime, the Rangers played some better defense as they held Roseville to 10 points in the third quarter. Roseville continued playing stiff defense, only allowing six Ranger points.
In the fourth quarter, Roseville picked up their scoring again as they scored another 19 points, while the Rangers could only get seven points on the board.
Steve Korthals and Nate Robertson led the Rangers in scoring with ten points apiece in the 57-36 loss, and Tom Frericks scored five points of his own.
The loss drops the Rangers record to 0-6 in Suburban East play, and 5-13 overall.
The Rangers next game is Friday when they travel to Park (Cottage Grove) for a 7:30 p.m. game. Their next home game is Feb. 20 when the host White Bear Lake at 7:30 p.m.
