Penalties prove costly

The Forest Lake High School boys hockey team is struggling as they head into the final stretch of the season.

The Rangers traveled to Hastings Thursday where they ran into a stingy Hastings defense.

Hastings scored a goal in the first period to take a 1-0 lead, and both teams were scoreless in the second period. The Rangers were unable to score a goal of their own in the third period, while Hastings managed to score an insurance goal and win the game 2-0.

The Rangers came home to host Roseville Saturday night.

Roseville scored two early goals, but Patrick Fogerty pulled the Rangers within one before the end of the first period when he got a pass from his brother Christian with 20 seconds remaining in the period. Blake Woodward tied the game at two in the second period.

The third period was a different game though as the Rangers took a few trips to the penalty box. Roseville capitalized on four power plays in the third period, and added an even strength goal to win the game by a score of 7-2.

The Rangers next game is today, Thursday, at Park (Cottage Grove) at 7:30 p.m.
