The Forest Lake High School girls hockey team got off to a rough start this week with a loss to Stillwater, but they bounced back with a tie against Woodbury.

Last Tuesday, the Rangers hosted Stillwater who scored eight goals off 37 shots.

ìIt wasnít our best game, but it wasnít our worst game either,î Rangers head coach Shawn Everson said. ìThey got some goals that you donít want to call fluke goals, but the 8-0 score didnít tell the true story of the game.î

The Rangers didnít dwell on their misfortunes against Stillwater. Instead they worked hard in practice as they prepared for Saturday afternoonís game against Woodbury.

Woodbury scored a goal late in the first period to take a 1-0 lead. The Rangers refused to let that get to them as they controlled the tempo of the game, firing 13 shots on the Woodbury goalie through two periods of play.

ìThe defense played well, but the offense was good,î Everson said. ìWe kept the puck in their zone and we put the shots on net.î

Still down 1-0 at the start of the third period, the Rangers kicked things into high gear, and at 9:03 of the third period Kelsey Blum took a pass from Stephanie Haider and tied the game.

ìWe played one of the best periods of the year in that third period,î Everson said. ìWe controlled the game in the third period.î

With the game tied at the end of regulation, the teams skated another eight minutes, but neither team was able to score and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
