News EditorSchool board meeting dates could be changed this spring under a plan the ISD 831 Board of Education will review following discussion at the boardís regular business meeting Monday, Feb. 2.
The board, at the behest of member Dean Barr at last weekís meeting, continues to tinker with its meeting schedule for the short-term and long-term and plans a review again at its May meeting.
Because of a personal conflict with new member Keith Dunham, the board has agreed to change its third Monday monthly work session to the fourth Monday starting in March. Dunham is not available to attend the board work meetings on the third Monday of the month.
Barr at the January meeting requested the board look at a new meeting slate for the regular business session.
For more than two decades the board has conducted meetings on the first and third Monday.
Barr continued the discussion on the potential change at the Feb. 2 meeting. Barr said a change would take pressure off the administration and free board members for other school events that frequently take place on Mondays.
He is suggesting a plan to utilize Thursday as the meeting night.
The board took no action on the request last week and wonít do so until May.
Member Joe Grafft has built his work schedule to free up Monday nights and has work commitments on Thursday nights through May.
With the short-term plan in place, the board agreed to review its meeting schedule again in May.
Arena meeting
Superintendent Lynn Steenblock on Feb. 2 briefly updated the full board on the special meeting Jan. 26 to review the status of the Maroon and Gold Ice Arena. Only four of the seven board members were able to attend the special meeting.
The school board is slated to continue its arena discussion at a second special meeting set for 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 23. The location for that meeting is yet to be determined. The meeting may take place at Forest Lake High School but no decision on a site has been announced.
The board will also take up the arena topic when it meets in regular session on March 1.
