Posted: 2/11/04 Rangers finish second in SEC meet
Joe Drennan With the season coming to an end, the Forest Lake High School wrestling team played host to the Suburban East Conference match Saturday. Taking second in the meet, the Rangers couldnít help but be pleased with their performance. John Denney, Jimmy Underdahl, and Jordan Kolbow helped the Rangers earn their second place finish as they all finished first in their weight classes. Denney won his weight class, 135, going 27-2 on the season in the SEC, and defeated Chris Anderson of Stillwater by decision. Underdahl defeated Matt Eller of Stillwater by major decision, giving him a season record of 27-3 in the 140 lbs. weight class. Kolbow finished first in his weight class, 145 by defeating Ryan Gamboni of Stillwater by a 7-4 decision, going 24-7 on the season in SEC competition. Eric Morris (119), Ken Janssen (130), Andy Ramirez (152), and Ted Truedson (160) all finished third in their weight classes. Morris won his match by a 13-5 major decision, Janssen won a closer 8-5 decision. Ramirez edged out Andy Secor of Stillwater by a score of 8-6, and Truedson won by major decision. Hastings ran away with the SEC title, finishing with 211 points. The Rangers barely edged out Stillwater for second place as the Rangers finished with 168 points and Stillwater 165. The ninth grade wrestling team had some success of their own as well this weekend. The team sent five wrestlers, Shawn Saxe, Luke Munklewitz, Lee Smith, Trevor Osterbauer, Steve Letoutneau to the state meet. Munklewitz and Smith were the top two Ranger wrestlers, placing fifth in their weight classes, going 4-1 at the meet. ìCoach Dettmer is real excited about it,î ninth grade coach Phil Sundblad said. ìWeíre happy to have the young talent to move up for next year.î The Rangers next meet is today, Thursday, at Foley High School at 6 p.m. |
